Your Skin and the Sun!

Yes,back to the topic.

Have you guys ever wondered when you see some people(women especially)that  have this large scar at the upper right of their faces and you begin to wonder if its AMIN ORUN (birth mark) or something. My people, ponder no more,it is simply a scar called SUNBURN. It is the term for red, sometimes swollen and painful skin. It is caused by overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun. SUNBURN can vary from mild to severe. The extent depends on skin type and amount of exposure to the sun. Sunburn is a serious risk factor for SKIN CANCER and for sun damage.Kindly note that it is not only on faces,it could be your arms, neck or backs.

Now, if you have seen all those women in those days that use bleaching creams and have these "scars"; sunburn is exactly what has happened to their skin. They do not protect their skin with an effective sun screen that could help prevent SUNBURN in a great way despite the fact that they use "toxic" creams. In the Nigeria that we live in, exposing your skin to the sun without an effective protection is a no no. You must see to it that every exposed part of your body is protected(smh for those exposing vital parts of their body in the sun waiting for danfo/cab all in the name of fashion).

Anyone that knows me well, will know that this topic is not only dear to my heart, but it is an important topic we must discuss. Haven experienced SUNBURN in times past,i can boldly tell you that it causes not only SCARS but EMBARRASSMENT. In my case it was sheer ignorance and laziness that was worrying me- Adebola of VIVERE MAKEOVERS can testify to this.I know what works but i would be so lazy to continue with it.
I have heard some ladies say to me that dark people do not need protection of any kind(Do not let me to start mentioning names o);but please let me explain this to you guys.
Being dark means you may not burn as quickly as someone who has lighter skin, the skin will definitely feel and react to the heat. If unprotected, the skin tone will deepen with continued exposure. Just because you are dark doesn't mean you cannot have SUNBURNS or SKIN CANCER and i am of a strong opinion that people with dark skins are at more risk of SUNBURN as their skin tend to hide it.

I have personally conducted lots of research and practice that has helped me to be able to reduce mine to a great extent and i am gong to share with you guys what worked for me.

I have just 2 ways and they are:

1. Staying out of the sun during peak hours. Avoid staying out in the sun during peak periods. Depending on the season and what part of the world you live in,the hours between 10am and 3pm should be spent in-doors. If you have to "waka"(walk) in the sun like i do sometimes(yea i waka a lot) use an umbrella and a sunglasses. Especially for those in Nigeria, you cannot help but to "kack" up from head to toe. It is very important.
2. Use sunscreen on any exposed part of your body. This is also important as there are some days that you would have planned not to step out and something will warrant you doing so. This is the magic right here ladies and gentlemen; SUN PROTECTION FACTOR commonly called SPF.It comes in different numbers but the least is SPF 15 which is just OK , but i will advise that you get an SPF of an higher number because the higher it is,the more effective. I would like to specially recommend the SPF i am using presently, its called SMARTSHIELD SERIOUS SUN PROTECTION

It comes in spf30 and  its approved by the US Food and Drugs Administration(FDA). It is used by the US army and navy because of its ability to protect your skin all day.I find this sunscreen very light unlike the ones I've used in time past. It absorbs quickly into the skin, not oily and its eco-friendly.

You can see how light it is

See how well it blends into the skin without turning white like other spfs

You can get yours HERE and i am sure you would simply love it.

So those are the two basic steps i take to shield myself from getting burnt  by the sun and being at the risk of having skin cancer.
Do you have tips that helps you protect your skin from the sun?please share as i am always  happy to learn new things.

I apologise for the long post.

Till my next post,be positive and remember God loves you.

Yours Truly
Kemog

  6. First off I want to say superb blog! I had a quick question which I'd like to ask if you do not mind. I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior to writing. I have had a tough time clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out there. I truly do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any ideas or hints? Cheers!

    1. Hello, thanks a lot for visiting the blog. Well, I wouldn't call myself a seasoned writer yet because for me, I just try to have fun when writing so it doesn't seem like my day to day work activity. Make sure you write when relaxing, put down everything that comes to mind, edit it and post. Believe me someone needs that info you have bottled up in your mind. I hope this helps and I am deeply sorry for replying now.
      Thanks
